VIRginia International Raceway Announces New Director of Marketing

VIRginia International Raceway announced today that Mike Rose has joined the team as the Director of Marketing. Rose joins VIR from Planet Central where he served as their Director of Business Development. Rose worked previously for Red Bull North America where he helped launch the brand in NASCAR and oversaw Red Bull’s introduction and ethos in Virginia.

“VIR reopened in 2000 and we have finished our 12th year of bringing the best motorsports events to Southside Virginia. We are excited that Mike is now a part of VIR as a valued addition to our marketing team,” Kerrigan Smith, VIR’s Track Manager explained. “Mike’s background in both corporate and motorsports marketing will help pinpoint VIR’s focus and strategy of continuous growth for the next 12 years.”

“The first time I saw VIR I knew I was in for something special. That was ten years ago, and I still have that sensation every time I return,” Rose said. “The hallowed track that could tell so many stories, the world class amenities, the sterling reputation and tremendous opportunity are what excite me about this challenge. I’m looking forward to joining an excellent staff that treats the facility with as much respect as each other.”

Rose has also worked in Affinity events highlighted by a career running the NBA’s Hoop-It-Up tour across North America. He also had the opportunity to work on the Organizing Committees of both the Atlanta Olympic Games and the World Cup Soccer event. Additionally, he worked in Orlando in the events department at Walt Disney World and owned his own sports marketing business. Rose is an active guest lecturer across the Mid-Atlantic and served on the Business Council of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and participates with the local Chamber of Commerce. He joined the Richmond Chapter of the American Marketing Association in 2007 and has served as VP Special Events, Membership and worked with Collegiate over the past few years.

Rose has a B.S. in Marketing Management from Virginia Tech. Rose and his wife, Amy, children Sydney and Christian, and their dog Coty, will remain active in Richmond while he embarks on an exciting new chapter of his career with VIRginia International Raceway.
