Getting On Track

To help find the perfect match for driving/riding experiences at VIR, we’ve compiled links designed to best address your needs for Cars, Bikes or Karts.

Cars

Low Speed Lapping

VIR hosts two to three open house events each season that support local charities. These low speed, no passing lapping events are run behind a VIR Pace Car at highway speeds and offer you an opportunity to experience VIR track side in your daily driver car, truck or bike. Check out the VIR Track Calendar for our next open house event.

New Driver Options

If you are a beginner or you don’t have a car of your own that you want to put on the track at speed, then you need to check out the VIR Driving Experience or VIRDE for short. Exclusively featuring the custom built Ariel Atom race series cars, the VIRDE is an opportunity to get behind the wheel of one of the world’s quickest supercars on VIRginia International Raceway’s 1.1 mile Patriot Course. VIRDE combines classroom and on-track driving instruction to help you master the basics of driving quickly, and safely, at VIR.

Once you complete your VIRDE event you can advance to a VIR Club Membership. We offer a $500 discount on the VIR Club initiation fee for VIRDE participants who elect to join the VIR Club within three months of their VIRDE event.

Driving Your Car At Speed

You have two options if you want to drive your sports car, classic or other high performance car or bike at speed here at VIR. If you want a single event experience, you need to sign up with one of the driving experience groups that visit VIR each season. A list of driver education groups can be found further down this page. If you want to drive VIR on a regular basis, then we suggest that you join the VIR Club.

VIR Club Member Driving Days

Members of our VIR Club enjoy 18 exclusive Member Driving Days each year. As a member of the VIR Club, you drive your car and enjoy all of our acclaimed track configurations. Members get anywhere from two hours to as much as eight hours of track time per day depending on track configuration, event type and club member attendance numbers. Members are expected to have basic track experience by attending either our VIR Driving Experience or another high performance driving school. A motorsports rated helmet and proper seat belts are required.
