VIRginia International Raceway Unveils Action-Packed 2017 Track Schedule

DANVILLE, Virginia – Dec. 5, 2016 – VIRginia International Raceway, one of the top six road courses in North America, is announcing its 2017 track schedule, with tickets on sale starting Thursday, Dec. 8. VIR’s 60th season features 10 exhilarating events, including VIR’s first time hosting the renowned Pirelli World Challenge this spring.

The Pirelli World Challenge helps kick off the spectator schedule April 28-30, featuring thrilling multi-class racing with top drivers competing with the hottest production-based race cars like Bentleys, McLarens, Ferraris and more. Pro motorcycle racing will take over the track shortly after with another season highlight, as the MotoAmerica Road Racing Series returns to VIR for its third year in a row in mid-May.

August will keep the momentum going with the fan-favorite IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship taking place Aug. 25-27 as the only mid-Atlantic stop in the premier North American sports car racing series. In addition to the headlining Michelin GT Challenge race, the action-packed weekend will feature several support series including the newly named Biscuitville Grand Prix race of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. The official season will close out with one of the more unique VIR spectator events, off the track and on VIR’s NRA-approved shooting ranges at the 3-Gun Nation Nationals and Shooting Sports Expo in November.

The track is waving the green flag for the its 60th season with a special Throwback Thursday offer. Fans who purchase a ticket for any of VIR’s 2017 events Thursday, Dec. 8, will receive a free shirt voucher, redeemable at the TMI Racing Products store in the North Paddock at VIR. Spectators save $10 by purchasing any event ticket in advance. Children 16 and under are admitted free of charge with a paying adult and parking is also free. Active military are admitted free of charge and veterans receive a 50 percent discount with valid military ID. Complimentary parking and paddock access will also be available at every event.
