Shift Your Company Retreat Into Gear!
Planning a company retreat can be a fantastic way to boost team morale, foster collaboration, and reward employees for their hard work. But where do you start? To ensure you create a memorable retreat for everyone on your team there are a few things to consider.
Set goals that set you up for success.

Identify the goals of the retreat. Does your team need to improve balance, collaboration, or even strategize for a new year? Perhaps you’ve had a great year and you want to keep the momentum going by providing a new and exciting space to let ideas flow. Knowing the objectives of your retreat will help you maximize the most of your time and meet your group’s needs!
- Make clear, concise goal statements
- Set deadlines and have regular check-ins
- Add measurable elements to your goals
- Don’t be afraid to head to the winner’s circle!
Activities at VIR like Karting, hot laps, or off-roading can give you that extra boost your 2pm cup of coffee can’t quite master. Nothing like a little adrenaline or friendly competition to keep the blood flowing! For groups looking to build their team’s communication skills, you can try the Pit Crew Challenge, Autocross on the Skidpad, or even tactical mobility training sessions. Setting goals for your team to focus on throughout the day can optimize your visit.
Location, location, location.

Whether you have a team of 5 or 50+ you’ll need a suitable place to convene. VIR hosts a mixture of professional meeting spaces and engaging activities when the lull of the day inevitably hits! Think of what you need in your space. Do you need a conference room-style setup or perhaps access to breakout rooms? Are you hosting any guest speakers who need access to projectors or PA equipment? Maybe you’re going for a company bash to celebrate the holidays or end-of-year awards and you’ll need a full banquet hall with tables, chairs, catering, a speaker’s podium or more!
You can choose from various spaces and event services to support your retreat at VIRginia International Raceay. Our upstairs Pagoda boasts a bright open space perfect for smaller banquet-style setups and catered luncheon events. The Gallery has hosted many receptions and has a capacity of 300 people with private bathrooms. For a day of moving around, breakout sessions, and unique workspaces Grid 9 Garage is probably for your team. A Traditional style classroom setup, conference room, convertible garage for large activity or meeting space, and a flex space can accommodate a break room setup, catering, or whatever you need!

Timing is key!

Balancing an itinerary is the last piece of the puzzle to an optimal team-building session! It’s recommended to mix recreational activities with work sessions to keep your entire group engaged all day. This is your chance to get out of your comfort zone and into the next phase of your team! Getting everyone excited to try something new or learn a new skill can improve overall morale and participation.
