VIRginia International Raceway, one of America’s premier road courses, is welcoming the New Year with the release of its action-packed 2014 schedule of spectator events. Kicking off in March, the schedule is one of VIR’s most prominent to date, featuring 13 spectator events, up from 11 in 2013. Combined, these 2013 events are expected to attract more than 200,000 fans.

Highlighting this year’s season are two unique series that promise to deliver exciting and adrenaline-filled racing. First, the Biscuitville 125 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will return to VIR for a third year on Aug. 16 and will feature some of NASCAR’s most talented up-and-coming stars. The newly formed TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, the result of last year’s merger between the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and the American Le Mans series presented by Tequila Patrón, has also selected VIR as one of 14 tracks to host a race during its inaugural season. The TUDOR United SportsCar Championship race will take place during the Oak Tree Grand Prix Aug. 22-24. In addition to these events, the schedule features the ChumpCar World Series (in both March and December), NASCAR stock car open test days (May), the North American Road Racing Association (June), the Virginia Festival of Speed Motorcycle Racing (June), Gold Cup Historic Races and Car Show (September), and more.

The 2014 season will also introduce a new simplified pricing system for events, making purchasing tickets and attending races at VIR easier than ever. For all events, with the exception of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, tickets will be priced at $10 for an advanced one-day ticket, $15 for an advanced two-day ticket and $20 for an advanced three-day ticket. All tickets sold at the gate will be $10 more. Children 12 and under are free for all races. In addition, complimentary parking is available.

Advanced tickets for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship race at VIR are $40 for Friday-only, $50 for Saturday-only, $70 for Sunday-only, $80 for a two-day Saturday and Sunday ticket, and $90 for a three-day ticket. All tickets will be an additional $10 when purchased at the gate.

All of the 2014 events will also benefit from track improvements made during the offseason. VIR’s full course was repaved for the first time since 1999 and was widened by six feet at several locations to allow for easier passing. In addition, the start and finish line were moved to just beyond pit row, allowing better viewing for spectators as well as positioning the finish on a wider portion of the track. Lastly, the north paddock was paved, including both previously paved and unpaved portions, to ensure an even and smooth surface.

“VIR has always held a special place in racing fans’ hearts as one of the premier road courses in America,” said Connie Nyholm, owner and CEO of VIR. “This year’s schedule really speaks to our continued growth at VIR as well as our dedication to providing the best race day experience to both drivers and fans. Our track improvements and simplified pricing structure are going to make the VIR experience even better, and are a great way to kick off one of VIR’s most noteworthy seasons to date.”
