VIRginia International Raceway Expands Beyond the Track

VIRginia International Raceway Expands Beyond the Track with Launch of Off Track Productions

The iconic 1,300-acre motorsports campus announces a dedicated 70-acre event venue in a strategic move to grow VIR’s reach and relevance year-round

ALTON, VA, [June 9, 2026] — VIRginia International Raceway, long regarded as one of the crown jewels of American road racing, is making a significant strategic move. The track has launched Off Track Productions, a dedicated 70-acre multi-purpose event venue on its campus, designed to host concerts, festivals, and outdoor expos in addition to its racing calendar.

For a facility that has spent decades defining what a motorsports destination can look like, the move signals a deliberate evolution. Off Track Productions extends VIR’s brand and infrastructure into the broader live events market, creating year-round programming opportunities on the same 1,300-acre campus that has attracted racing enthusiasts and competitors from across the country.

The open-air 70-acre event space and all its available zones welcome inquiries for special events and programming at VIR independent of its established racing calendar. Zones can be booked individually or altogether.

“VIR has always been more than just a racetrack. We hear all the time that it’s a destination. Off Track Productions reflects our commitment to growth, innovation, and community investment,” said Connie Nyholm, CEO, VIRginia International Raceway.

VIR already draws approximately 350,000 visitors to Virginia’s Halifax and Pittsylvania County regions and surrounding areas each year through its motorsports programming. Off Track Productions is built to attract non-racing audiences on top of that base, expanding the venue’s national profile while maintaining the operational integrity the track is known for.

Development of the new venue was informed by VIR’s own operational experience hosting large events, with infrastructure investments in parking, road access, utilities, and site accessibility built in from the start, alongside coordination with county officials, public safety, and emergency services.

“What we’re building with Off Track Productions is intentionally different, with a long-term vision centered on sustainability, accountability, and community partnership,” Nyholm said.

VIR’s Off Track Productions offers the East Coast’s only purpose-built outdoor event venue on a fully self-contained resort property, with on-site lodging, dining, and other amenities. Spanning 70 acres of open land in beautiful Southern Virginia, the venue offers event producers a rare combination of natural terrain and established infrastructure. VIR’s independent ownership means event partners will work directly with leadership and decision-makers, making for easy collaboration. And the track’s 68-year legacy as one of America’s most celebrated road courses brings an existing national audience and a brand reputation that no new venue could manufacture.

Off Track Productions is now actively fielding inquiries from event producers and partners. For more information, visit Off Track Productions’ dedicated page on the VIR website: www.virnow.com/otp
